Tuason

Surf guide

Tuason is a heavy left-hander that can be paradise for advanced surfers at 4-6 ft. Generally you'll find three peaks, with an occasional fourth right-hander emerging behind the cliff. The peaks range from small to gnarly and are best suited to intermediate - advanced surfers. Tuason’s reputation is built on peak season (late September to November), delivering head high to double overhead barrels when conditions align. The spot is technical, with steep drops that demand a quick pop-up over a sharp reef bottom. Similar to Cloud 9, summer tames it with small beginner friendly waves when other breaks in Siargao flatten out. It's a fairly exposed spot which often results in messy, close-out waves unless the conditions are just right. Tricky? Yes. Epic on a perfect day? Absolutely.

Ideal conditions

Swell direction

Northeast swells from 2-8 ft.

Wind direction

Southwest offshore or no wind.

Tide

Mid to high tide. Tuason is best with more water.

Wave difficulty

Advanced

Powerful, fast, and hollow waves over shallow reef.

Wave quality

Good

Tuason ranges from good to perfect with ideal conditions as it can be tricky to navigate.

Crowd factor

Moderate

Not as busy as "Crowd 9", but can draw a crowd on smaller days. When the swell picks up there aren't many people crazy enough to go out.

How to get there

If you're coming from General Luna, follow Tourism Road toward Cloud 9, then turn right toward Harana Resort (or left if you're coming from Catangnan). From there, follow the dirt road to the left, leading to a narrow path that goes directly to the beach. Parking is available, but please be mindful of residential and business areas. You can paddle out through the channel in front of this path, or walk up the beach to the cliff and paddle out over the reef.
