Pansukyan

Surf guide

Pansukyan is a lesser known wave not far from Daku Island. The way it wraps around the reef almost makes Pansukyan bowl shaped, offering fast right-handers when there's enough swell. Instructors occasionally take beginners there when the conditions are smaller, but it’s generally better suited for advanced surfers when the wave gets to around head high. Pansukyan also offers a beautiful, long reef perfect for exploring on small days—so don't forget your mask and snorkel.

Ideal conditions

Swell direction

4-8 ft East or Southeast swells.

Wind direction

North or Northwest offshore winds.

Tide

High tide only. Pansukyan can be surfed an hour either side of high tide.

Wave difficulty

Intermediate

Upper intermediate to advanced when the swell is head high or above. Barrels and can be tricky due to the shape of the wave.

Wave quality

Good

Pansukyan only comes together a few times a year, but is a great wave with an empty lineup when conditions align.

Crowd factor

Empty

Pansukyan is generally empty, but if word gets out that conditions were good, then you can expect to see a boat or two there the next day.

How to get there

Pansukyan Reef is located between Daku and Naked Island, roughly 15-20 minutes by boat from General Luna. If you’re staying at a resort in Malinao, they might arrange a boat for you; otherwise your best option is to head to the General Luna marketplace, where island hopping boats leave for island hopping tours. Prices can vary but the cost is typically no more than 1500 PHP. Keep in mind that you will also need to pay an environmental fee before departure.
