Pacifico

Surf guide

Pacifico, otherwise known as “Big Wish”, is a world-class left hand reef break located in Barangay Pacifico, roughly 1 hour north of General Luna. This spot can handle massive swells and peels over a long, shallow section of rocky reef. In the off-season and on smaller swells, Pacifico is the Norths swell-magnet equivalent of Cloud 9 and can be surfed without too much risk. In peak conditions, Big Wish is double to triple overhead+, mechanical barrels and is best left to experienced surfers. Warning: From the beach at Big Wish you will face a strong rip current that runs from North to South toward the San Isidro river mouth (you will find your board here if you lose it). If you aren’t confident in your ability or paddle fitness consider finding a more sheltered spot further north. Remember that Pacifico has board-breaking power which could leave you with a difficult swim to shore. While Big Wish can be beginner friendly on small days, we recommend talking to a local instructor before paddling out. Ideal conditions

Swell direction

2-10+ ft North or Northeast swells.

Wind direction

Southwest offshore or no wind.

Tide

Mid to high but can be surfed with less water when the waves pick up.

Wave difficulty

Advanced

Powerful barrels and Uluwatu-like currents make paddling out dangerous for inexperienced surfers during peak season.

Wave quality

Perfect

Perfectly shaped lefts with long open faces and barreling sections.

Crowd factor

Empty

You’ll usually find only a handful of surfers out, and even fewer when the swell is on (unless there is an event in the North).

How to get there

Pacifico is roughly 1 hour drive North of General Luna. As you enter Barangay Pacifico you might notice the remnants of Big Wish Beach Resort and some local kubos (beachside rest house) beside the road. You can park on either side of the road, and from the beach, the wave is a about a 160 meter paddle out, but beware of the strong cross-shore currents.
