Guiwan (G1), often referred to as “Paradise,” is located in Barangay Union, about a 15 minute drive from the GL town centre. This A-frame wave, offering both lefts and rights, is ideal for beginner to intermediate surfers when the conditions are up to shoulder high. Guiwan is a perfect spot for beginners, but the fast, hollow nature of the wave and the crowds can make it challenging to navigate at first. In big swells, especially when the wind howls from the northeast, it is typically one of the only surfable spots besides Stimpy's—so crowds are common. On rare occasions, during massive typhoon swells, the waves at Guiwan can get overhead and barrel, attracting a competitive local lineup. There are other waves in the area, including “Secret Spot” (yes, another one), all within a 5 minute drive.
4-12+ ft East to Southeast swells. Due to it's location, Guiwan needs a big swell for the waves to wrap around the island and produce waves.
North to Northwest offshore winds. Guiwan can be a fun little spot when other breaks are blown out by Northeasterly winds.
Mid – high. Better with more water on the reef. Be careful of exposed rocks during low to mid tides.
Beginner
The wave can be tricky to figure out at first and fast down the line. The proximity to shore, lack of current and average size make it a perfect spot for beginners.
Good
Guiwan does get overhead and barrels once or twice a year in perfect condition but is average for the most part. Bonus points for the amazing scenery.
Crowded
One peak and a highly competitive local lineup from sunup to sundown, particularly when other spots are blown out or too big.
From GL, head west Past SOS Gym until you reach a T intersection in Malinao. Turn right, follow the road past Balay Malinawon and keep left at the fork heading toward Union. The road winds around mountains and mangroves for about 5km offering some beautiful scenery. Eventually, you will reach an intersection in the small town of Union, turn right here. Roughly 1km further along this road, you will see a small sign on the left that says “Paradise” and usually some bikes parked on the bend. Stop here and follow the dirt track that leads down to the beach. Be careful of the slippery path during rainy season. View the map for reference.
